For A Renewed Descent of the Holy Spirit In Our Day

“As we give thanks for past blessings, and look to the challenges of the future, let us implore from God the grace of a new Pentecost for the Church in America. May tongues of fire, combining burning love of God and neighbor with zeal for the spread of Christ’s Kingdom, descend on all present.”
Pope Benedict XVI, Papal Visit to the United States, April 19, 2008

Our world is in great danger. It is under constant threat from unprecedented acts of terrorism and war, disasters of nature, economic crises, mass hunger, moral decline, attacks on human rights and the sanctity of human life.

As people of faith, we know we are engaged in a colossal battle between the Gospel of Life and the “culture of death.” We are deeply concerned, but not without hope. More and more people realize that our world needs conversion. More and more people realize that our efforts alone will not be enough. We need the help of heaven.

As the great feast of Pentecost approaches, this is the opportune time for a mass appeal to the Lord to send again and anew His Holy Spirit over our wounded world. Let us respond to and extend the call of our beloved Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI for a “new Pentecost” for the entire Church and world.

This is the time to gather around Mary, as the Apostles did in the Upper Room 2,000 years ago, in praying for a New Pentecost in our day. We share the deep inspiration that the Lord entrusted our time and our world in a special way to the Immaculate Heart of His Mother. Remembering her promises, we make an urgent call on her motherly advocacy. Through the power of her maternal intercession as Co-redemptrix, Mediatrix, and Advocate, the Lord will work miracles and send His Holy Spirit.

Please join us in praying the Pentecost Novena Prayer, starting Thursday, May 1 (Solemnity of the Ascension) to Sunday, May 11 (Solemnity of Pentecost).

Add to it from among these prayers:
“Come Holy Spirit, come through Mary.”

Pray the following powerful prayer:
“Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Father,
send now your Spirit over the earth.
Let the Holy Spirit live in the hearts of all nations,
that they may be preserved
from degeneration, disaster and war.
May the Lady of All Nations,
the Blessed Virgin Mary, be our Advocate. Amen.”

The beautiful Pentecost prayer of the Church:
“Veni Sancte Spiritus…”

Pray as your heart leads you…

Prayer can change the world. Prayer is great in the eyes of the Lord and will also lift up your own life. International lay leaders, as well as cardinals, bishops, clergy, and religious have given their support to the prayer novena. Among the most noteworthy supporters are Mother Angelica, foundress of the worldwide Catholic network EWTN; Ambassador Howard Dee, former Philippine Ambassador to the Vatican; Michael O’Brien, renowned Canadian novelist and social commentator; and Sister Briege McKenna, O.S.C., an Irish Sister of St. Clare, who has an international ministry to priests and bishops.

Please join us. Time is short. Let us use this time of mercy! Please feel free to distribute and translate.

  5. Niran Noel Iskandar says:

My previous comment is a kind of prayer that I myself ask from God “To show me what is unpleasing to Him and make me repent from doing it”. For me, I need to understand what I am praying for so I can recognise God’s graces on me. So, when I pray for the Holy Spirit to come upon me and touch me with God’s Love and Mercy, I know that God will listen to my prayer and help me to reach Him through our salvation: Jesus Christ, and may be allow me to evangelize according to His Teachings with wisdom and courage.

“Pray, pray and pray and never be tired from praying no matter what happens and God will listen”.

  6. Niran Noel Iskandar says:

YES. The world need a new birth that start with repentance, and a torch to show each heart the right from wrong. A torch that will allow our actions/speech to shine on others and enlighten their way. We need to be one body ourselves, pray for ourselves and see the mistakes of our own body (check our hearts: do we all carry the Love & Mercy of God in our hearts for every creature on earth?), and this will fix others. We cannot preach what we don’t practice.

When the Holy Spirit came upon the Disciples:
    * He showed them where their treasure is, so their hearts stayed there.
    * He gave them all what they need to testify to the Truth leading to eternal life.
    * He attached their hearts to Jesus Christ’s Sacred Heart who became their lamp that
lightened for them the darkness so that they, in turn, will enlighten to all.
    * They started to see things through this Sacred Heart (“The eye is the lamp of the
body”) that hold all the love and mercy for every one of us.
    * He made them commemorate God’s Law, speaking things that come from the Sacred
Heart and preaching, with wisdom, God’s Love & Mercy for all.
    * He made them clean as all their actions (speech or thought) come from such Heart, as
    Jesus Christ said.
“Blessed is the man who walks in justice and speaks what is true”. Amen

May the Peace of Jesus Christ (The coming of the Holy Spirit of Truth) be upon every leader, parent, priest, … and all for the Glory of God. Amen

  7. Bishop Afable says:

  10. John Philip Lim says:

I’m thankful to a radio station, where they encourage their listeners to help them in praying the Pentecost Novena. I decided to be part of this World prayer activity together with my family, relatives and friends. Being part of the youth, I understand that we are in the midst of crossroads. May this Novena help us in renewing our faith and love to our Lord. May God continue to shower His Blessings to all.

  11. Gerry Lucero says:

As Christians we must actively participate and
encourage others to join the world in praying for a new Pentecost.

For our part, we are dedicating our radio station in Iloilo to this novena for the next ten days. So, whoever you are … wheverever you are … in the office.. in the car… sitting quitely at home … you are not alone for together we join the rest of the world in asking Our Father in Heaven to make a miracle and send to our wounded world the Holy Spirit.

Even now, my family and I are feeling this wonderful and spiritually rewarding experience of of God’s peace and love. Rarely are we given this oppurtunity to serve to the Kingdom of Heaven.

We encourage everyone to do the same.

    God Bless Us All.

  12. Howard says:

As a part of the past 40 days for life rosary and fast champaign, we will be joining with you , the Mystical Body of Christ, to pray for respect for all human life .

  13. Pat (from New Zealand) says:

“Come Holy Spirit, come by means of the powerful intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, your well beloved spouse.” Amen! Amen! Amen!

I intend to forward and make known the Novena details to as many people as possible.

I will also endeavour to have a Mass offered on each of the nine days of the Novena. Can others around the world do the same?

For our Bishops I pray: “that all Bishops will uphold the true teachings of the Catholic Church and resist temptations to compromise doctrine in the face of cultural and social pressures.” Amen.

For our priests I pray: “that all priests may be open to the graces of the Holy Spirit to strengthen them for their task of bringing souls to God and God to souls; and that they may be on fire to convert the most hardened sinners, and bring God’s love to the whole world.” Amen.

For all peoples of the world I pray: that all peoples of the world, irrespective of race or creed, will come to know God and that He is Mercy and Love; and that Jesus Christ, the Returning King, is The Way, The Truth and the Life. Amen.

Do you realise that the Novena will, in fact, run for 10 days due to the International Date Line! Isn’t that great! And I think it’s awesome to know that we, here on the other side of the world, will be ‘kicking it off’!
(I wonder if I can rally some people together to begin the Novena just after midnight… )

May God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, bless each and every one of you.

  14. maria says:

Please don’t print this. Wasn’t the Lady of All Nations condemned by the Church and isn’t that the prayer you have listed to use for the novena?

Extravagant displays of devotion to Mary gets curtailed as world culture emphasizes the rational, scientific and technological aspects of life. There seems to be no more time for the more affective expressions of religion.

Then, after a while, people get fed up with the absolutely rational and logical culture, and rediscover religion and the affective part of the human soul and its needs.

And Mary is one of those.

Love and support for Pope Francis
The Church is certainly a human and historical institution with all that entails, yet her nature is not essentially political but spiritual: the Church is the People of God, Holy People of God making its way to encounter Jesus Christ. Only from this perspective can a satisfactory account be given of the Church's life and activity.

Christ is the Church's Pastor, but his presence in history passes through the freedom of human beings; from their midst one is chosen to serve as his Vicar, the successor of the Apostle Peter.

Yet Christ remains the center, not the Sucessor of Peter: Christ, Christ is the centre.

A Million Roses for the World
A gift of love, faith and goodwill from the people of the Philippines. Pope Pius IX once said: “Give me an army praying a million rosaries a day and we will conquer the world.” We are not out to conquer the world…but to save it for God to whom it rightly belongs.
