The reason lies in the fact that “God is with us”, in Jesus, God has “come to save us, and especially those whose hearts are bewildered”.
“Our joy is Christ, his faithful and inexhaustible love”, Pope Francis added. “Therefore, when a Christian is sad, it means he has distanced himself from Jesus”. “But – he insisted – we must not leave that person alone; we must pray for him or her, and make them feel the warmth of the (Christian) community.”
He prayed that Mary, who was filled with the joy of the Lord, would obtain for all Christians “the joy of the Gospel in the family, at work, in the parish and in every setting” that “infinite joy” which is “made of wonders and tenderness”. This joy, he said, is “the joy that a mother experiences when she looks at her child who is just born, and feels that it is a gift of God, a miracle for which one can only say thanks.”
